Andrés Oppenheimer wrote an editorial on April 24, 2026 in which he cited multiple surveys showing that Pope Leo XIV was winning the latest controversy with President Trump.
It would be wise for Oppenheimer to read the wise words of the American writer Andrew Ferguson, who wrote an article in the November 2010 edition of “Commentary” magazine, arguing that you can find a survey that says anything you want it to say.
For example, I found a national Fox News survey, conducted between April 17 and 20, 2026, that showed that Catholics approved of President Trump’s decisions by 51 percent.
Most Catholics are grateful that President Trump is the most pro-life and pro-Catholic President of the United States in the last 53 years. President Trump ended the war against Catholics launched by the Biden Department of Justice and the FBI, pardoned pro-life activists, stopped the chemical mutilation of our children, protected parental rights, and appointed three conservative judges to the U.S. Supreme Court who played a key role in overturning the infamous Roe v. Wade decision.
Pope Leo has criticized President Trump’s military operation against the theocratic and totalitarian regime of Iran, as well as his immigration policies against illegal immigrants.
With a nuclear-armed Iran and a United States overwhelmed by illegal immigrants who refuse to swear allegiance to our founding documents and Judeo-Christian values, a ‘United States of America’ will cease to exist. A ‘Disunited States of America’ will not keep loyalty even to the Vatican.
This explains the reasons why the majority of Catholics support President Trump.
I just can’t forsake the pope because the truth is always somewhere in the middle and you don’t know the whole story. Too many people, especially those in government, people who sell timeshare and used car salesman will say and do anything to make the sale, get elected, stay in power, and feel the rush to control others. I belong to no party but I am and will always be a child of God. Is the Pope perfect, nah no one is and he is still a man but “The Pope is the Pope” which to me which is higher than any government official that comes and goes. Our President is not Catholic and was raised in a non-denominational home. I vote “Jorge for President” and Sio as First Lady! Now your talking!!!

The Pope is the Pope. No one can deny that. But he should stay in his lane — the religious lane. When he meddles in politics, he is not infallible. His opinions are just as valid or erroneous as those of any other secular person. When he follows “liberation theology” principles, he deviates from Christian values. In 1984 and 1986, through Cardinal Ratzinger (future Pope Benedict XVI) as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, John Paul II officially condemned liberation theology — as many of its principles are grounded in Marxism which is incompatible with Christianity. I am also a Catholic, but my religion is based on the Bible and my faith.

I agree—but if that’s the standard, it would have to apply across the board. Every member of the clergy, and really anyone speaking from a place of belief, would need to step back from sharing opinions on politics or public issues. That means evangelical ministers, pastors, rabbis—everyone.Truthfully, if more people held back from broadcasting every opinion, it might actually create a little more peace. 😂 The reality is, most of us are working with incomplete understanding. Even the most thoughtful and intelligent people can only see part of the picture. What we call “truth” often shifts with time, perspective, and the ever-changing interplay of actions and reactions in the world around us.Maybe the better goal isn’t silence—but humility, discernment, and a little more grace in how we speak and listen.I always look forward to your thoughts, viewpoints, wisdom but you are brilliant beyond most and have very clear thinking that comes from a very solid foundation Others, not so much especially those who rely on the media, party representatives, closed communities, and people who just like to hear themselves talk 🤦♀️ Cathy BackusPresident Send Me On Vacationwww.sendmeonvacation.orgBackuscathy@gmail.com702-277-3812 Adventure never ends because we are always on the way. 🌺
